CWJ director Dr. Susan Weiss was one of four trailblazers tapped by the AJC to write and present a paper for a high-level workshop of Jewish communal leaders on strategies for ending the monopoly of Israel’s chief rabbinate over issues of personal status such as marriage and conversion.
“The aim is to develop an action-oriented strategy around which Jewish leaders may unite in the pursuit and advocacy of this agenda,” AJC leaders said. They noted that Weiss’ expertise in the area of protecting the rights of women in the face of rabbinic court injustices contributed significantly to the success of the workshop, which took place in New York on January 21, 2014.
