Using three case studies of gender issues in Israel, Sered discusses the successes and challenges faced by women to enter areas of Judaism that have previously been off limits. She distinguishes between “rebellion” and “revolution” as a means of addressing patriarchal discrimination and implementing necessary reform. Contrasting the case of Women of the Wall (rebellion) and Women in Religious Councils (revolution), Sered argues that attempts at reform would be best served by language of revolution rather than rebellion.
