Zubrzychi examines the role of religion and religious institutions play in the formation of national identity, using Poland and Quebec as case studies. In each state, Catholicism has evolved from a religion of faith and God into socially accepted religious practices to which citizens relate. Israel is struggling with issues similar to those faced in both Poland and Quebec: how to successfully integrate religious values into the context of the Jewish state while at the same time embracing pluralism.
