Casanova revisits his original thesis that religion should not take part in the “public” sphere of politics and government, but can have a limited place in the “public” sphere of “civil society.” In this article, Casanova argues that he could envision the possibility of religion playing a part in the public sphere of government since religions around the world are wrestling with gender equality as women take on higher profile roles.
